Today at lunch I had an interesting Korean ice cream, dripped the ice cream down my blouse and on my shoe, and took a walk around campus. Well. I was walking whilst eating the ice cream.

ME: Lovely, lovely Korean ice cream. With solid chocolate in the middle! I miss South Korea!
ME: Oooh hibiscuses! Oooh dahlias! Oooh huge glob of ice cream on my shoe...fuck...
PASSERBY: Why is that girl nudging the plants...with her foot...
PASSERBY: She's waving a popsickle stick. Dripping with bits of...a drippy thing.

All of which were very exciting.

Then I met up with two new friends from one of my courses. I asked them if they had any fandoms. They asked me if I had any fandoms. I was chattering happily about books and a few shows and a few movies when they kindly let me know that...no...they're not involved in any fandoms.

FRIEND: I'm pretty sure Teddy Lupin did not date Cho Chang. I'm pretty sure Teddy Lupin WAS A BABY.
FRIEND: She's raving. She's got ice cream stains on her blouse and shoe, and she's raving.

I felt like Alice stumbling out of the rabbit hole. It was still exciting to introduce people to the concept of fandom and transformative works.

Another thing which excites me, speaking of fannishness, is the She-Wolves of Winterfell which George R.R. Martin has planned to be a future installment of Dunk and Egg. I KNOW I KNOW he said he won't be touching it before he finishes Winds, BUT I AM SO THIRSTY FOR IT. Stark ladies! A GROUP OF FORMIDABLE STARK LADIES. MORE INFO ABOUT THE STARK FAMILY. 80 years ago! Will Old Nan be there? I'd love to write fic in her pov. Will Lyarra be mentioned? *GRABBY HANDS*

What are some exciting things which happened to you post-Easter hols? What are you excited about, generally?

Things I am excited about generally:

  • The finale of The Expanse on Wednesday

  • Doctor Who is back, and I love the new companion

  • The Leftovers third season looks even more fucked up than last season

  • I'm marching in the March for Science in DC on Saturday

  • We're having dinner with 4 of our best friends on Friday in a really nice restaurant

  • I'm running again, albeit slowly

  • A friend and I are looking to put together an improv jam in July at a Burner event called Sunburn

  • We're going to New Orleans for Jazz Fest the weekend after next

  • We're going to Germany in the Fall

  • I just got my hair cut and don't feel like I'm hideous for a change

The March for Science is a protest against the policies of the Trump administration regarding science, especially climate science. More information here

I 100% miss Korean ice-cream, and their amazingness at ice-cream is weird, because most Koreans are lactose intolerant, and thus most milk products there kind of... well... lack. But Korean ice-cream? Only Turkish is better.

Most of the planet is lactose intolerant to some degree, but you will find that milk, particularly cow milk, was not a part of most the diet from China eastward.

It's always fun trying to explain fandom stuff to people. Also, pssh, in Harry Potter a 19 year old age gap is nothing, not with their life span!

I'm excited about all the licorice candy I bought when I was traveling last week, and
iZombie, which I just started watching.

Seriously, I don't get why fandom is always skewed so much in the other direction.

Licorice is very much an acquired taste and a lot of people don't like it, but I do! Though Sweden is also big on a salted/spicy kind that I am having trouble getting used to.

Yes! It's a zombie girl solving murder mysteries! I've only seen one episode, but I found it very charming (I am big on fantasy/sci fi and female protagonists) and am planning a binge-watch.

I love Orphan Black and am super excited for the last season! I enjoyed Jessica Jones and Agent Carter recently (though the second season was kind of eh), and the others on my list to check out are Killjoys (lady bounty hunter), The Expanse (more sci-fi, that has an awesome female captain, apparently), Supergirl, and Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries, though I think there's no sci-fi/fantasy in that, just detecting...
